GEXSI helps to identify ways how the German textile industry could play a supportive role to take a new approach to a sustainable supply chain management. Why not identifying impactful investment opportunities in the textile supply chain in key supplier markets such as Bangladesh.
My field trip to Dhaka in June 2015 confirmed: An investive approach is a logical step, and there are many existing initiatives which help to put this approach into action.
A particular important field of action is to reduce the huge water footprint of the textile industry. It simply makes no sense to pump up fresh water for the textile dying industries from more than 100m, while polluting the surface water with the remains.
Another scoping mission, possibly to Pakistan, may follow later this year. The water topic may be even more important in this country which heavily suffers from lack of access to clean water.
The advisory project is executed in partnership with our “office neighbours” Impact Solutions who launched an impact investing lab with the development agency GIZ, who is leading this process.
Good news for the impact investing sector !
